Bill Johnson, DPT, OCS, AGFI, is a native of Harrisonburg, VA, and is the owner of
Advantage Physical Therapy & Sports Performance, which opened in September 2001. He graduated from
Bridgewater College 1991 (BS in Biology), Shenandoah University in 1994 (Master of Physical Therapy),
and Shenandoah University in 2005 (Doctorate in Physical Therapy). He is a board certified clinical
specialist in orthopedic physical therapy (OCS). He has advanced training in knee and shoulder
rehabilitation with emphasis in the "overhead thrower" and training in osteopathic medicine
through Michigan State University. Bill is a certified advanced golf fitness instructor (AGFI) and has
worked with golfers since 1997. Outside of work he enjoys time spent with his family attending local
sporting events, traveling and time with extended family, friends and church. Bill also enjoys sports
and outdoor activities including camping and an occasional round of golf.
Tobin D. Forbus, MSPT, CWT, CCCE, heads up the Weyers Cave location. He joined the staff at Advantage in May 2003.
Tobin is a Lynchburg native who attended college in the Philadelphia area for his B.A. in Psychology
(1996) and Master of Science in Physical Therapy (1998) while playing and coaching collegiate tennis.
Since graduation, Tobin has been working in various outpatient orthopedic settings with experiences
including Director of Physical Therapy at a Philadelphia hospital and Senior Therapist/Center
Coordinator of Clinical Education of an outpatient chain in the Pocono mountains. Tobin's special
interests include disease prevention, spinal and orthopedic rehab, manual therapy, clinical education
and nutrition. He has a certified weight training specialization through the International Weightlifting
Association. Additional recreational interests include tennis, hiking, camping, fishing, disc golf,
snowboarding, cross-country skiing, landscaping and handyman work on his 100-year-old home.
Michael Wilburn, MPT, grew up in the small town of Gassaway, WV, before attending Marshall University, where he received a BS in Biology (2001). He and his wife, a Bridgewater native, then moved to North Carolina where he earned his Masters in Physical Therapy at East Carolina University (2003). After moving to the Harrisonburg area and completing his clinical training at Advantage, Michael then joined the staff in August of 2003. He currently works with a wide variety of diagnoses, and also specializes in the evaluation and treatment of foot and ankle injuries. On a personal note, Michael enjoys spending time with his wife and children. He also enjoys any and all sports/recreational activities, especially those outdoors.
Valerie Stapel, PT, has been with Advantage Physical Therapy since 2004. She brings 20 years of experience in treating orthopedic conditions. She specializes in treatment of neck, pelvic and back pain, pelvic floor pain and dysfunction, incontinence and general orthopedics. Valerie is a 1986 graduate of the University Of Maryland School Of Medicine with a degree in Physical Therapy. She resides in Harrisonburg with her husband and 4 children. In her time away from work she enjoys time with her family, home bible study and playing her flute at church.
Dianne Cekada, PT, joined Advantage Physical Therapy and Sports Performance on May 16, 2006. Dianne offers experience (dating back to 1988) problem-solving a multitude of pain syndromes and orthopedic dysfunctions including post-operative care. She has augmented her practice immensely with the use of a technique known as Strain Counterstrain. She has been trained in all three levels of competency with the Jones Institute and continues to master its strategic sequencing, combined with other appropriate manual therapy and exercise prescription, to the benefit of so many of her patients. She specializes in problematic or chronic neck and back patients, back pain due to pregnancy, headaches as well as joint pain and dysfunction throughout the body. Dianne is a 1988 graduate of Daemen College in Buffalo, NY, with a degree in Physical Therapy. She currently resides in McGaheysville with her husband and sons.
Kathy Werner, LPTA, moved to the Shenandoah Valley after graduating from George Mason University in 1983. Later she attended Northern Virginia Community College graduating in 2002 with an associate’s degree for physical therapist assistant. She joined the Advantage team in October 2004. In 2006, she was certified as a massage therapist. She enjoys her two dogs and her favorite outdoor activities are kayaking, canoeing and hiking.
John Erik Carlson, VATL, ATC, was born and raised in Essex County, Virginia. He moved to the valley to attend Bridgewater College where he received a BS in Athletic Training in 2005. Following graduation, John became a nationally certified Athletic Trainer after passing the National Athletic Training Association Board of Certifications exam. Since joining Advantage in 2005, John has worked in the clinic as well as covering sporting events as an Athletic Trainer for the Harrisonburg Turks, Eastern Mennonite High School and Luray High School. John enjoys playing and watching sports as well as spending time with family and friends.
Lauren Coverstone, M.S., joined Advantage Physical Therapy as the clinic’s sports performance specialist in the summer of 2006. Lauren is originally from Strasburg, Virginia, but after attending James Madison University has resided in Harrisonburg. She graduated in 2004 from James Madison University with a B.S. in Kinesiology with a specialization in physical education teacher education. In 2006, she earned a M.S. in Kinesiology with a concentration in clinical exercise physiology. She is also a certified personal trainer and group exercise instructor. Her favorite activities include running, watching sports, and spending time with family and friends.
Kim Pisk, OT, joined Advantage Physical Therapy as the clinic’s occupational therapist in June 2007.

Stephanie L. Bridges, Office Manager (Weyers Cave location), joined Advantage Physical Therapy
in August, 2004, as Insurance and Billing Specialist. She is originally from Spotsylvania, VA, where she graduated
from Spotsylvania High School in 2000 with an Advanced Studies Diploma. Stephanie graduated in May, 2004, from
James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA, where she received her B.S. in Health Sciences with a concentration in Health Services Administration and a Minor in Business. She also plans to further her education with an M.B.A.
Teai M. Ritchie joined Advantage Physical Therapy in July 2006 as an Administrative Assistant. She is from Broadway, VA. She graduated from Broadway High School in 2002 with an Advance Studies Diploma. She attended Radford University for 2 years, and Blue Ridge Community College for a year. She currently resides in Harrisonburg.
Eileen Gilmore, a graduate of National Business College, has been employed with Advantage since February, 2007 as an insurance billing specialist. She has 3 children and lives with her husband in Harrisonburg.
